There's a reason Dustin May keeps showing up in serious rotation talk, and it isn't just the 99 OVR badge. If you've been weighing up MLB 26 stubs options for Diamond Dynasty, May is the sort of card worth looking at closely. His New Threads version gives you 99 Velocity, 99 Break, 104 K/9, and enough stamina to stay useful well past the early innings. More importantly, he makes hitters deal with different speeds and movement paths instead of letting them settle into one timing window.

He's built for changing the at-bat

May feels different from a starter who lives or dies by one overpowering fastball. His 98 mph four-seamer can climb above the zone, then the 95 mph sinker pulls a hitter's eyes back down. The 93 mph cutter looks hard out of the hand but takes another route, while the sweeper drops to roughly 83 mph. That's a nasty gap. You'll notice opponents often start protecting for heat after an inning or two. That's when the circle change, around 88 mph, can steal an awkward swing.

Pitching with May takes a bit of thought

His 88 Control means he's not a card that can rescue careless locations. Leave the sinker too central and it can get hit hard. Still, players who enjoy reading swings will get plenty from him. A simple approach works well.

Show the four-seamer up early, especially after a low pitch.
Run the sinker toward the hands when the hitter starts gearing up.
Use the cutter when they're expecting either fastball shape.
Save the sweeper for counts where a chase makes sense.
Mix in the circle change once they're swinging early.

That sequence isn't meant to be followed like a script. It's more about keeping the other player uneasy. The moment you throw the same pattern too often, May loses part of his edge.

Ratings matter, but the mix matters more

May's 113 H/9 against right-handed hitters and 101 H/9 against lefties give him real value on both sides of the plate. That makes him easier to trust than a specialist who needs constant bullpen support. Garrett Crochet, Paul Skenes, Shohei Ohtani, Tarik Skubal, and Zack Wheeler all bring their own strengths, but May asks a different question: can the hitter identify five pitches before it's too late? In longer online games, that variety can hold up better than one obvious weapon.

A rotation card with staying power

May won't suit everyone. Players who want every pitch to land on the corner may prefer a starter with higher Control. But for someone willing to adjust from pitch to pitch, he's a proper problem. The 103 Pitching Clutch and 92 Stamina help when innings get messy, while cheap MLB 26 stubs can make building around cards like this feel more manageable. May earns his place because hitters can't comfortably sit on one speed, one lane, or one idea.
